Dear Julia,

Thank you very much for your question.

Breast augmentation by fat transfer is a fascinating subject. The benefice of this surgery is not only seen in the breast but also in the areas where the fat has been harvested. In fact, the surgery consist in removing fat from one part of the body (tummy, flanks, thighs) in order to graft it into the breast. There are different techniques to achieve this goal. I use a system called ‘lipo-collector’ that uses a close circuit to aspirate the fat an prepare it for grafting.

Benefits: It is your own tissue, no implants is needed, there is not rejections, no allergies, the result is natural. The ideal patient is the one who wants a small augmentation (120 -180ml) and who has some fat reserves.

Disadvantage: When the patient desires a volume higher than 180ml (more than a cup size) an implant is needed. There is also a reabsorption rate of 20 to 30% of the volume that has been grafted. In some cases microcalcifications can result from this process, which may lead your gynecologist to make a ponction- biopsy to be totally sure that the calcification is benign.

As you can see, not every woman is a candidate for this surgery, however the results a great when the patient has been carefully selected. I performed a breast augmentation by fat transfer yesterday (on local anesthesia). The surgery and the immediate post-operative results are amazing. The patient is very satisfied and she is aware of all the implications.

Hello Audrey,

Thank you very much for your post.

The time required to perform a breast augmentation by fat transfer is approximately 3 hours. There is no need to stay one night at the clinic, however in some cases I recommend it. The type of anesthesia vary from person to person. Sometimes I perform the breast augmentation by fat transfer under local anesthesia, which simplifies some aspects of the surgery, some other times I perform it under general anesthesia when comfort demands it. The prices varies from 8'000.- to 15'000.- depending on the type of anesthesia and the time of use of the operation room.

A breast augmentation with an implant is a relatively easy procedure that last 90 minutes. In my hands, a breast augmentation with implants is always performed under general anesthesia. Some time the patient return home the same day, however I prefer keeping my patients in the clinic for 24 hours.

The incidence of complications secondary to breast augmentation by fat transfer or breast implants is relatively low compared with other surgeries. The best way to reduce the risks is to endorse your case to a qualify plastic surgeon. My commitment is to see every patient individually to consider all the aspects that will lead to a successful surgery avoiding taking unnecessary risk. Please do not hesitate in contacting my secretary to book an appointment and I highly recommend to came to the consultation with your husband.

Good evening Dr,

What will be the price difference with a silicone implants and fat injection implants.
How long does the ops take and how long after we stay at the clinic/hospital??
My husband is a bit skeptical of a breast enlargment due to the so many side effects ...any reassuring words :)
thank you doctor for your time

Hello, I would be interested in a fat injection for a breast augmentation. I looked at your site but couldn't find a lot of information. Are you regularly doing this kind of intervention? Is the cost comparable to implants? What are the advantages / disadvantages compared to implants?
Many thanks for your reply!
